Blue Sleeping Baby Limoges Box

Deep in sleep and dressed in soft blue, a tiny baby forms the shape of this porcelain box. Hand-painted in Limoges, France, it marks the arrival of a little one with something that can stay on a shelf long after the onesies are outgrown.

Hush, Little One

A sleeping baby is one of the most peaceful images there is, and this box keeps that stillness in porcelain. The pale blue coloring makes it a natural choice for a baby boy. Because each box is decorated by hand, the shading of the blue differs slightly from piece to piece.

Tucked Away for Later

Parents often use a box like this to hold a first lock of hair, a hospital bracelet or the first lost tooth years later. It makes a lovely baby shower present, a christening token or a gift from grandparents on the day of the birth. Set it on a nursery dresser now, and move it to a bedroom shelf as the years go by.

Limoges porcelain is hard-paste porcelain fired at very high heat, which helps a piece like this last well beyond the baby years.
