Christmas Toy Soldier Artoria Limoges Box

Standing at attention for the holidays, a Christmas toy soldier takes his post in this Artoria box. He is shaped and hand-painted on porcelain in Limoges, France, in the spirit of the Nutcracker.

On Guard for Christmas

Toy soldiers have marched through Christmas stories since the 1800s, most famously in the Nutcracker ballet with its battle beneath the tree. Artoria captures that tradition in porcelain. Each soldier is painted by hand, so the uniform colors and face differ a little from one figure to the next.

December Traditions

Many families attend the Nutcracker every December, and this box makes a lovely remembrance of that outing. It is also a fitting present for a ballet dancer, a dance teacher or a grandparent who collects nutcrackers. Set it on the mantel, the tree skirt or a holiday sideboard.

Because the soldier stands tall and straight, he looks especially good at the end of a row of Christmas pieces, as if guarding the rest of the display until New Year's Day.
