Rochard Blue and White Porcelain Urn Limoges Box

Shaped like a classical urn and dressed in blue and white, this Rochard box echoes the china that so many homes display with pride. It is hand-painted on porcelain in Limoges, France.

Echoes of the China Cabinet

Blue and white decoration has been prized in Europe for centuries, inspiring patterns from Delft to the French manufactories. Rochard applies that much-loved palette to the elegant outline of an urn. Each piece is painted by hand, which means the blue and white work differs slightly from box to box.

Among the Plates and Vases

• A Rochard urn design
• Fits a blue and white, classical or china cabinet collection
• Settles in naturally among ginger jars, plates and vases

For the Blue and White Devotee

Anyone who already collects blue and white porcelain will recognize this as a natural addition. It makes a thoughtful present for a hostess with a full hutch, a newlywed registering for china or a friend who decorates in a Chinoiserie or French country style.

The art of the decorated Limoges box began in 18th-century France, when such boxes carried snuff, pills and beauty patches. An urn shape carries that classical spirit forward, and on a bookcase or hutch shelf it looks entirely at home.
