Rochard Monkey Sitting on a Barrel Limoges Box

Up to some mischief, a monkey has claimed the top of a wooden barrel in this lively Rochard box. The barrel forms the body of the piece, and both monkey and staves are painted by hand on porcelain in Limoges, France.

Monkey Business on the Barrel

A monkey on a barrel calls to mind old circus wagons, ship cargo and the organ grinder's companion. Rochard keeps the scene playful, with the animal perched as if waiting for an audience. Each box is painted individually, so the fur and wood grain vary slightly from one piece to another.

A Barrel of Laughs

• A Rochard wild animal design
• Belongs with monkey, jungle or circus themed boxes
• Pairs with elephant, lion and big top pieces

Gifts With a Grin

This box makes a fun present for someone born in the Year of the Monkey, a zookeeper, a primate researcher or the family prankster. It also brings a smile to a friend who needs a lighter piece among more serious porcelain. Set it on a bookshelf, a desk or a game room shelf where its cheeky pose can be seen.

Wild animal collectors sometimes find their shelves full of lions and elephants; a monkey on a barrel gives the group a sense of humor and a story to tell.
